Title: A Short Guide to Marketing Model Alignment & Design
Sub-title: Advanced Topics in Goal Alignment – Model Formulation
    By (author): David Young
    ISBN10-13: 1543912591 : 9781543912593
How this book is different from other Marketing Modeling books and what you can get from itThis book integrates Marketing and Statistical concepts and is written for Marketing Modelers, Model Users, and Purchasers of marketing models. Most books on Marketing Modeling are slightly modified statistical texts. If you're looking for a book that talks about the "logic of marketing" and the "design of statistical models" in an integrated way to increase model accuracy and improve business profits, then this book was written for you. Marketing Models are neither just Statistics nor just Marketing, but a synthesis of the information sources creating a cohesive predictive system, and the broader you cast your net for useful information the better your models will be.Nevertheless, anyone who's worked around Marketing Models at all will have heard people talk about modifying models for "statistical reasons" or modifying them for "business reasons" as though the two sets of criteria are from Mars and Venus, respectively. In this book, I try to help readers develop a deeper understanding of the reasoning behind both sets of rules to put themselves in a better position to weigh the value of all evidence and define the most applicable business goals for their models to address. And after defining those goals, design the best models for achieving them. Too often, modeling objectives are defined quickly and without much thought. In many cases, standard statistical techniques are pulled from the "tool box" and applied without aim. Oftentimes the models resulting from that process are reasonable, although typically not optimal. Other times they're clearly lacking, however the business users (and sometimes competent modelers) are fooled by the façade of science surrounding the modeling process. Hence, criticism is often deflected and the models can live on, even if their efficacy has become dubious. If you'd like to better understand: ⠢how to define dependent variables to maximize business goals;⠢how business logic should influence your model design; ⠢when lower R-Squared statistics can represent better models; ⠢how much information you can reasonably expect from your data;⠢how to safely work with imperfect data that may offer partial information but that shouldn't be naively relied upon, and; ⠢ultimately how to create models offering superior business value ⠦ then read on.

    By (author): Darryl A. Lansey
    ISBN10-13: 1098318870 : 9781098318871
Author James Baldwin once said, "A journey is called that because you cannot know what you will discover on the journey, what you will do, what you will find, or what you find will do to you." In A Thin Line Between Love and Hate: A Black Man's Journey Through Life and the CIA, Darryl Lansey takes readers on a journey from his childhood growing up in a working class Black family in Baltimore, Maryland to the secretive halls of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). During his more than 30 years with CIA, Darryl traveled the world collecting and analyzing secret information in support of six presidents' administrations from Ronald Reagan to Donald Trump.

Darryl describes his tenure with CIA as a "strange love affair." He loved the Agency and the work of trying to keep the United States safe from its enemies. Yet, he also describes the mental and physical pain he endured that stood in contrast to his loyalty to his country, as CIA's deeply rooted systemic racism and its white managers repeatedly thwarted his career aspirations. Despite the personal hurdles he faced, Darryl worked throughout his career to transform CIA's diversity and inclusion and leadership cultures for the better, so future generations of employees are able to thrive.

Special Agent Isabella Parker (DHS) and her federal law enforcement siblings, Sophia and Cameron Parker, find their lives endangered in a high-stakes scramble for survival. Their fated trip to Ravens Nest had them stumble into becoming full-fledged task force members of Operation Anarchy. Their covert project to root out corruption at the upper echelons of government and within the various alphabet soup agencies firmly marks them for death. The trio finds themselves hunted by ruthless and wealthy assassins, spied on by clandestine agents, and preyed upon by top-level supervisors. The ensuing confrontation forces them to face their inner demons and insecuritiesâ or perish. The fight could not get more personal when everyone they love and care about becomes a lightning rod for peril. Roped into the danger that threatens to destroy her family, he is set on a race against time to endure a collision course with powerful enemies.Their alliances formed with the Willis family will be further tested under the iron-fisted command of Catherine Willis. Sub-title: How My Music and Inventions Brought the Piano to Life
    By (author): Ezra Charles Helpinstill
    ISBN10-13: 1098340833 : 9781098340834
Ezra Charles is Houston's most celebrated piano player, winning the Houston Press Readers' Poll in six different years between 1992 and 2013, along with many other awards. But before he adopted the stage name "Ezra Charles" in 1983, he was already famous in the music world as Charles Helpinstill, the inventor and manufacturer of the Helpinstill line of piano products. In the course of his long career on both sides of the footlights, he met and interacted with dozens of music superstars. Now he has written the backstories of both his life as a musician, and his personal adventures with the rock heroes after he invented the device that made it possible for the world to hear them. Each of the forty-five chapters in the book primarily tells a story of an individual celebrity he met. Since the book is in chronological order, it becomes the life story of a musician growing up in the Gulf Coast region of Southeast Texas that spawned several generations of legendary contributors to American Music.

Title: Breastmilk Insufficiency: A Dance Between Biology & Culture
    By (author): Milton Herrera
    ISBN10-13: 1098342828 : 9781098342821
Breastmilk Insufficiency: A Dance Between Biology & Culture is a multidisciplinary examination of breastfeeding as a biological, cultural, historical, and social phenomenon. Grounded in long-term ethnographic and biological research, the book investigates why some women are unable to produce sufficient breastmilk and how such outcomes emerge through the interaction of physiology, perception, cultural belief, economic conditions, and institutional practices. The book opens with a prologue that situates breastfeeding within a long history of artistic, religious, and scientific representation, tracing how lactation has been understood across cultures and time. The introduction establishes breastmilk insufficiency as a phenomenon that cannot be explained through biology or culture alone, but instead requires an integrated analytical approach. Subsequent sections review earlier researchers and theoretical predecessors, examine cultural beliefs and attitudes toward breastfeeding, and trace the progression from separate biological and cultural explanations toward increasingly integrated, culturally mediated biological perspectives.Empirical research forms the core of the book. Drawing on fieldwork conducted in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, Herrera explains the development of his research design and the methods used to define and examine breastmilk insufficiency. The analysis brings together bioethnographic dataâ linking mothers' own explanations and experiences with biological measuresâ alongside quantitative and qualitative evidence, including interviews, observation, physical measurements of breast milk, and basic body measurements of mothers and infants. This integrated approach demonstrates how social context, meaning, and confidence are closely connected to physiological outcomes.Later sections situate breastfeeding within broader social and economic contexts, including the Ecuadorian economic crisis of 1999, comparative observations in Brooklyn, and the roles of producers, actors, and spectators in breastfeeding practices. Quantitative data are integrated with theoretical and conceptual frameworks to examine how stress, culture, and lived experience shape breastmilk production. The final part of the book develops its central conceptual contribution by situating breastfeeding within a wider "dance" between biology and culture. When many women cease producing milk for their infants, the cause lies not in biological mechanisms alone, but in biology unfolding within socially reconfigured environments shaped and constrained by cultural forces. From this insight, the analysis broadens to human experience more generally, arguing that culture can act directly upon biological processes, reshaping the conditions under which human life unfolds. To name this condition, Herrera introduces the concept of "culbios," proposing a new language for understanding how sustained cultural mediation transforms biological systems and everyday experience. CULBIOS thus designates a mode of human evolution defined by ongoing transformation, in which technologically intensified interconnection shapes experience and opens human life toward what lies beyond the given and the known.
