| The residential sector consumes a vast amount of energy. This situation has resulted in an increased interest by the scientific community in the subject of energy saving. In the present work, the authors examine the characteristics of some newer systems and options for energy savings in residential buildings. Sources for optimally heating buildings, energy systems distribution, thermal energy storage systems, control systems among other improvements and operations, which may help to reduce energy consumption in the residential sector, are discussed. The possibilities of use of heat pumps in technical systems, passive solar heating and water heating in domestic hot-water systems are also outlined. Special attention is paid to the problem of energy storage in energy systems. |
