This book deals with the synthesis, properties and applications of titanium dioxide (TiO2) which is a naturally occurring oxide of the element titanium. In nature these oxides are found in well-known minerals such as Rutile, Anatase and Brookite. However, it is most commonly extracted from titanium tetrachloride by carbon reduction and re-oxidisation. Alternatively, it may be processed from another oxide called ilmenite, which is subjected to reduction with sulphuric acid to achieve pure titanium dioxide.
Table of Contents:
Preface; Titanium Dioxide & Rutile: An Overview & its Photocatalytic Activity; Phase Stability & Transformations in TiO2; Rutile Nanostructures: Synthesis, Characterisation & Potential Application in Photocatalytic Processess; The Fabrication of Rutile Nanoparticles & Hollow Microspheres with Mesoporosity; Titanium Dioxide under Ambient Air: Preparation & Photocatalytic Properties of TiO2 Precipitated Aerosols; Rutile as Superacid Catalysts: Preparation, Morphology & Catalytic Activity; The Coordination State of Titanium Atoms at the Surface of Industrial TiO2 Specimens According to the Data of Electronic Spectroscopy of Diffusion Reflection; Ferromagnetism in Transition Metal Doped Rutile TiO2.
